The Snowdonia Slateman is a brand new trathlon being held in Llanberis on 22nd May. Competitors will begin with a 750 metre swim in Llyn Padarn - there's a 200 metre swim option for less confident swimmers - followed by a 51km road ride over the Llanberis Pass, down the Ogwen Valley to Bethesda and back to Llanberis via Tregarth. Finally, bike shoes will be changed for running shoes in order to complete the final hurdle, a challenging 11km run through the famous Dinorwig slate quarries. The overall winner will be crowned The Slateman.
The triathlon is being organised by the local events company, Always Aim High
. Its Event Director, Tim Lloyd, is very experienced in organising such events and Lloyd, said: "We wanted to bring another event to Llanberis to complement the fantastic Snowdon Race in July and the Snowdonia Marathon in October. May seemed the best time of year and Llanberis is the perfect venue for a trail triathlon".
The event is open to individual athletes and teams of three. There is limited availability so early entry is advisable. It is hoped that the event will attract triathletes of all abilities and experience levels.
Lloyd added: "We want competitors to come and have a great experience at a great event, the challenge of finishing will be a tremendous achievement in itself, of course there will be many who will come for the close competition too. The slateman will cater for everyone’s ability”.
