Two of the UK’s leading Alpinists, Al Powell
and Rich Cross
will be presenting lectures on cutting edge mountain adventures in Nepal and Peru on Monday 1st December 2003 at Bangor University.
The show which forms part of the 2003 RAB Sponsored Lecture Series (in association with Alpine Guides Ltd) promises an evening of stunning images, words and music.
Rich will present ‘The Longest Ridge’
. The first ascent of Ama Dablam’s last great problem, the oft-tried North West ridge. With fantastically exposed ridges, hard mixed climbing and no way down this was one of the most committing British ascents of the last decade.
Al will present ‘Fear and Loathing’
. The first ascent of the highly coveted South East Face of Jirishanca, the ‘Matterhorn of Peru’. After one disastrous avalanched attempt, this stunning face was finally climbed to give one of the steepest pure ice lines in Peru.
The lecture starts at 6.45pm.
Tickets are priced at £6, and available online at www.alpine-guides.com
