Welsh Open Canoe Symposium 2007 - 13/10/2007 - 14/10/2007

Organised run on a voluntary, not-for-profit basis, the hosting of the event now rotates annually between Wales, England and Scotland in a three-year cycle. Its aim has always been to bring together people of all levels of experience and ability in a sharing of enthusiasm for & knowledge of all aspects of open canoeing.

We are delighted to announce that Cliff Jacobson will be our special guest for this year’s event. A professional canoe guide and outfitter, he will be joining us from North America to entertain us with lectures and workshops. Cliff is a renowned consultant on wilderness canoeing/camping and the author of over a dozen top-selling books. His book entitled “The 20th Anniversary Edition: Expedition Canoeing” is the authoritative resource for wilderness canoe expeditioning. Find out more about him on www.cliff-jacobson.com

Venue: Gwersyll Glanllyn is an Outdoor Education Centre situated on the shores of Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake). Owned and operated by the Urdd. It is situated about 4 miles west of the town of Bala on the A494. The site has direct access to the lake shore and is within easy reach of a variety of other canoeing venues.

Workshops
The symposium is staffed by some of the most experienced & knowledgeable canoe coaches from across the UK. All of them give up their time for free to be involved in the weekend. The diversity of workshops & quality of coaching available means that the Symposium represents incredible value for money.

Water level & weather conditions significantly affect which workshops we can offer. Our aim will be to give a wide range of half-day & all-day workshops based around the prevailing conditions. There is usually something to suit novice, improving & advanced ability paddlers.

A full list of proposed workshops will be available on the symposium website
www.opencanoesymposium.co.uk at the end of September.

Evening Entertainment
There will be an onsite bar on Friday & Saturday, for which we have requested a late license.
Cliff Jacobson will be giving a slideshow presentation on Friday evening & will repeat it on
Saturday evening.
Chris Cooper will be giving a slideshow presentation on his proposed “British Isles Canoe

On Saturday evening there will be a live band playing for those of you who want to strut your stuff.
